As Indiana COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen to 1,687, the state is averaging more than 20 deaths a day.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported Tuesday 2,062 new positive cases confirmed between Oct. 22 and Oct. 26 and 51 new deaths that occurred between Oct. 16 and Oct. 26. These bring the state totals to 166,564 cases and 3,958 deaths.
Of the 51 deaths reported today, 41 occurred on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26. The average daily death count peaked in late April with 42 deaths a day, but that rate fell during the summer to an average of 8 to 10 daily deaths. Since September, the rate has more than doubled with Indiana now documenting an average of 22 Hoosiers dying every day.
The state has administered 2,754,311 tests with a 7% seven-day positivity rate.
In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 19 new positive cases, increasing the county total to 3,375. The death toll remained at 38. The county has administered 116,058 cases with a 2.2% seven-day positivity rate.
