Amy Coney Barrett was formally sworn in Tuesday to the Supreme Court, and her lifetime appointment received praise from Indiana’s most-notable conservative leaders.
“Judge Amy Coney Barrett is another in a long line of Hoosiers prepared to make our state proud at the federal level,” Gov. Eric Holcomb said in a press release. “I’m confident her experience and intellect will continue to guide her as she welcomes this new, awesome responsibility.”
Barrett attended Notre Dame Law School before serving as a law clerk for two conservative judges — Justice Antonin Scalia and Judge Laurence Siberman. She then returned to Notre Dame where she served as a professor of constitutional law and federal courts before a 2017 nomination by President Donald Trump to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Along with her three years of judiciary experience and extensive academic work, Indiana Republicans commend her work as a mother. Sen. Todd Young took to Twitter calling Barrett a role model to young women.

Sen. Mike Braun — who also voted to confirm Barrett — showed his support on social media.

President of Notre Dame Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., spoke on behalf of the university congratulating Barrett and offered continued prayers.
“Recognized by experts from across the spectrum of judicial philosophies as a superb legal scholar and judge, she is an esteemed colleague and a teacher revered by her students,” Rev. Jenkins wrote in an official statement. “We join her family and friends in celebrating this momentous achievement.”
