Indiana has seen a rise of COVID-19 cases and deaths statewide, but Monroe County and Indiana University data have been relatively stable.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported Wednesday 2,587 new COVID-19 cases — 2,580 of which the ISDH confirmed on Oct. 27 — and 33 deaths that occurred between Oct. 22 and Oct. 27. The new positive cases on Oct. 27 are Indiana’s third greatest number of cases in a single day, while the 32 deaths reported on Oct. 26 make it Indiana’s second deadliest day since May.
Indiana has confirmed 169,112 positive cases, 2,991 deaths and currently has 1,679 COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The state has administered 2,783,748 tests with at 7.1% seven-day positivity rate.
In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 51 new positive cases and no new deaths, increasing county totals to 3,426 and 38, respectively. The county has administered 117,846 tests with a 2.5% seven-day positivity rate, while IU’s updated COVID-19 dashboard displays a 0.83% positivity rate from its mitigation testing.
Students living in Greek houses had an increase in positivity from 1.5% to 2%. Off-campus students also saw a slight increase in positivity from 0.8% to 0.9%. Students living in residence halls saw a decreased positivity rate from 1.1% to 0.6%, and Greek-affiliated students living outside of their organizations house had a positivity rate drop from 2.3% to 2.1%.
Monroe County Community School Corp. reported three in-person students and two online students have tested positive for COVID-19.
