The nonprofit organization Girls Inc. Monroe County is selling its building in Bloomington with plans to transition to more in-school programming.
Ellen Rodkey is a trustee with Girls Inc. She says organization leaders started talking about moving towards more in-school programming 18 months ago –and financial challenges brought on by the pandemic sped up the process.
She says in-school programming will lower barriers to participate, and nationally the organization has already been moving to this model.
“We see it as an evolution and we’re going to be meeting girls right where they are, so we’ll be able to accomplish our mission even more effectively.”
Rodkey says right now there is virtual programming available, and their in-school model will be launched as early as fall 2021.
