Indiana University President Michael McRobbie added his congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in a statement Monday afternoon.
McRobbie said the results became clear on Saturday and that with them came the historic election of Harris as the first woman, first Black woman, first woman of South Asian descent and first daughter of immigrants elected to such a high national office.
While also congratulating Gov. Eric Holcomb and other congressional, legislative, state, and local officials, he said he understands not everyone in IU’s broad and diverse community will always agree on policies of any administration at any governmental level. He said IU is committed to protecting free speech but that disagreements must be done in a civil, respectful, and reasoned way.
But he said the voters have spoken, “and we can now move forward and continue the vital educational and research work of Indiana University.”
