Thanksgiving during a pandemic will look completely different for families and turkey production sales.
The family gathering size will be affected during the holiday season as people try to stay safe from COVID. That will lead to new hosts.
Becky Joniskan, president of Indiana State Poultry Association, said she thinks a significant number of these new cooks will have “never touched the holiday turkey.”
She said Indiana is fourth in turkey production.
“However, the absolute majority of the commercial turkey that we raise is processed and not sold as whole birds,” she said.
Because of the type of turkey sold, Joniskan says the pandemic may benefit Indiana.
“So I think we may see there’s more demand for Indiana’s,” she said, “the type of products Indiana produces.”
