The historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater marquee was damaged.

Jonah Crismore, executive director of the theater, said it looks like somebody threw a bottle at the marquee last week, leaving a hole.

“To be frank I was kind of disgusted by it. I mean… our marquee is such a symbol for how great Bloomington is,” Crismore said.

Crismore said the sign is used to highlight other businesses and send positive messages, so he is unaware of why someone would want to damage it.

The cost and repair date has not been determined yet. Crismore estimated it would be a couple thousand dollars.

“I can’t even think of any real reason as to why someone would do it, but we’re just sad that it happened,” he said.
