Bloomington parking is usually affected when students are not in town, but adding a pandemic to the equation makes an impact too.

Bloomington Parking Service Division Director Michelle Wahl said the revenue of metered parking is significantly down. She said the city is working to react.

“What’s happening is because we are losing significant revenue, we have to look at our everyday operations,” she said, “and pull back some of the future projects that we might have slated going into this next year.”

This also includes closing some parking spaces to allow small businesses and restaurants to do their business outside to follow COVID safety protocol.

“Of course it is very concerning when you have revenue shortfalls, but we are going to work strategically to make sure that we are on the right track for 2021,” she said.

The next Bloomington parking commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10.
