With No In-Person Guests Allowed At IU's Commencement, Families Plan Alternative Celebrations

Indiana University is still having its commencement ceremonies this year, but no guests can attend.

Like many IU seniors, Maci Glotzbach was excited she will get to graduate in person but is sad her parents won’t be there to witness it.

"So I was excited that I was going to get to go but I knew how upset my mom would be and she was upset," she said. "But I’m just happy that I get to go."

Many IU parents are still coming to Bloomington to celebrate with their children, but they will be doing so from hotel rooms and apartments; Glotzbach’s parents will be among them.

“Basically they’re going to come up and they’re going to watch it virtually at my apartment and then after the ceremony, I think we’re planning on just hanging out in the apartment, ordering some pizza,” Glotzbach said.

IU’s graduate commencement will take place Friday and the undergraduate commencement Saturday. Both will take place at Memorial Stadium.
