As Monroe County aims to get more residents vaccinated, one goal is to reach more people of color.
That’s why a vaccine clinic Monday at the Monroe County Convention Center will focus on Bloomington’s Latinx community.
"We have Spanish speaking helpers and volunteers to get everyone through so that we can take away language as a barrier to being vaccinated," said Penny Caudill, county health administrator.
Caudill said her office has been working with the city’s Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) department to spread the word and get people signed up.

The clinic will start at noon and use the Moderna vaccine.
Because that vaccination requires a second dose, Caudill said second shots will be scheduled for June 7.
"Plans are also underway with our schools for more vaccinations," said Caudill.
All Hoosiers 16 and older are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to approve it soon for children ages 12 to 15.
Caudill said as the national vaccine eligibility lowers, the county will start encouraging those children to get their shots in coordination with local school districts.
