Indiana is making free job training availableImmunization against the flu is critical to making sure hospitals aren’t overburdened with flu cases, alongside COVID-19.

Indiana University is hosting its first flu vaccine clinic at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Sept. 25 from 12-6 p.m.

The university required all students, faculty, and staff to get vaccinated against the flu in 2020, but is only encouraging it in 2021.

Indiana University chief health officer Dr. Aaron Carroll said it’s difficult to require a vaccine that is not free, which is why the school is hosting its own clinics.

“Last year we decided we would require it and yet then provide it,” Carroll said. “We wound up buying a lot of vaccine we could not use because people got flu shots elsewhere, which is wasteful, and we don’t want to contribute to waste.”

All IU students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a free vaccine at a future clinic site on Oct. 12 from 12-8 p.m. and Oct. 24 from 12-6 p.m.
