Indiana and Kansas, two of the most storied basketball programs in the nation, announced a home-and-home series beginning next year.
The first game will be Dec. 17, 2022, in Lawrence, Kan., with the Hoosiers playing host Dec. 16, 2023. Both games are on Saturdays.
“I’m extremely excited for our program to have the opportunity to play a home-and-home series against a team that is rich in tradition like the University of Kansas,” first-year coach Mike Woodson said. “I think it’s wonderful for the players and coaches in both programs to play these games in such iconic buildings like Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and Allen Fieldhouse.”
The two schools have won a combined eight NCAA championships. They met in the 1940 and 1953 NCAA championship games, both won by Indiana under coach Branch McCracken.
The teams played home-and-home series in the early 1970s and ’90s. The last time the Hoosiers and Jayhawks met was in Honolulu Nov. 11, 2019. The then-No. 2 Kansas escaped with a 103-99 overtime win.
Overall, Indiana has an 8-6 lead in the series.
The Hoosiers are off to an 8-2 start this season under Woodson. Their next game is Saturday against Notre Dame at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis in the final Crossroads Classic. The game tips at 2:30 p.m. on FOX.
