The deep, soothing voice of public-address announcer Chuck Crabb has been unmistakable to fans who have attended IU basketball games over the past 45 years.
But it’s one they will hear no more as Crabb announced his retirement effective immediately Monday. Known for his booming introduction of “Your Indiana Hoooooooosiers,” Crabb’s final game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall was last Wednesday’s win over Penn State.
Crabb graduated from Indiana University in 1973. He took over the role of PA announcer for football and men’s basketball in 1977 and, over the years, has spent time as the announcer for women’s basketball, soccer and track and field for the Hoosiers. Crabb has also worked several Big Ten and U.S. national team events.
Crabb served as IU’s associate athletic director for facilities since 1990.
