Forecasters are predicting a major winter storm this week that could bring accumulating snow, ice, and sleet.

National Weather Service officials say the storm system will start as rain Tuesday night, then turn into a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain by Thursday.

Total sleet and snow accumulations of up to three inches and a quarter inch of ice are possible through south central Indiana.

Central Indiana could see up to four inches of snow and slight ice accumulations. More than eight inches of snow is possible farther north in the state.

Precipitation is expected to end by Thursday night. Officials say dangerous travel conditions are expected in all areas, but the storm route is still uncertain.

A winter storm watch will take effect Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation as more reports become available.
