Winter weather returns with sleet, snow and flooding

Moderate to heavy rain will transition to a wintry mix and then snow across central Indiana later today from northwest to southeast.
Moderate to heavy rain will transition to a wintry mix and then snow across central Indiana later today from northwest to southeast.

Winter weather returns tonight throughout most of the northern half of the state. Heavy rain will turn to mixed precipitation as temperatures drop this afternoon.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight from Terre Haute to Greencastle to Indianapolis.

Forecasters are calling for flash freezing and snow accumulations of up to one inch with 40 mph winds. Mixed precipitation could create hazardous travel conditions.

A flood watch remains in effect for most of the state with up to 2.5 inches of rain expected Thursday. This may cause flooding of low lying areas, and will likely cause minor to moderate flooding along area waterways throughout the week.

Weather status by county as well as delays and closings being reported to WFIU and WTIU News can be  found here.
