Monroe County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Bloomington man for attempted murder, aggravated battery and arson.
Justin Lee Hollingsworth was booked into the Monroe County jail Wednesday, after he allegedly tried to kill his grandfather, Steven Webb.
In a probable cause affidavit, Detective Andrew Rushing wrote that he responded to a house fire and found Steven Webb lying in front of his burning residence. He wrote that the 72-year-old was badly injured with severe head trauma.
Webb was transferred to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where medics treated him for bleeding in his brain and broken bones in the face.
The affidavit said Webb later told investigators Hollingsworth beat him severely and that he saw Hollingsworth pour gas around his kitchen.
According to the affidavit, Monroe County fire investigators found six different points of origin for the fire, indicating it was set intentionally.
It wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if Hollingsworth has an attorney.
