Bloomington man allegedly tried to kill grandfather, charged with three felonies

Justin Lee Hollingsworth was charged with three felonies Monday: attempted murder, aggravated battery, and arson.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Hollingsworth was arrested last week for allegedly trying to kill his grandfather, Steven Webb.

Detective Andrew Rushing wrote that police responded to a house fire last Tuesday and found Webb lying in front of his burning home. The 72-year-old was badly injured with severe head trauma.

Webb told police that his grandson, Hollingsworth, was responsible for the fire and his injuries. Hollingsworth was found on the property and taken into custody.

Webb was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to the affidavit, Webb and Hollingsworth argued last Tuesday evening and Hollingsworth became violent. Hollingsworth allegedly attacked Webb, striking him multiple times.

The affidavit said Webb saw Hollingsworth emptying the contents of a gasoline can inside the house. Then, Hollingsworth allegedly set fire to the house.

Webb was eventually transported by Lifeline to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis because his injuries were so extensive.

A Monroe County fire investigator said in the affidavit that the fire had six points of origin – indicating it was started intentionally.

Hollingsworth is being held in the Monroe County jail with bail set at $100,000.
