Bloomington Transit (BT) is replacing some weekday, late night bus routes with Uber and Lyft rides starting June 27.

Routes 1-5 will now end service after departing the downtown transit center at 9:10 p.m. Routes 6 and 9, which focus on the Indiana University campus, will continue to operate late night routes.

Riders within a quarter mile of the affected routes will be able to enter a discount code worth up to $19 between 9 p.m. and midnight. Riders will pay the first $1 of the trip, which is the current fare for a bus ride.

How to get BT discount on Uber/Lyft:

    • Download the Uber and/or Lyft app on your mobile device
    • Create an account
    • Request a ride
    • Enter the Discount Voucher Code provided by BT as a method of payment
    • Discount will be applied if your trip is within the service area
    • You pay the first $1 and amount over $20

BT is making the service change to address an ongoing driver shortage.

The pilot project was scheduled to begin May 9, but BT delayed it to work out details with both Uber and Lyft. BT will reassess the program after a six-month window.
