An Indianapolis attorney who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, along with two of his cousins, was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court.
Quentin Cantrell, 55, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 60 days of home detention, three years probation, fined $10,000, ordered to perform 120 hours of community service and pay $500 in restitution.
Cantrell, who has practiced law for more than 20 years, was found guilty of spending 19 minutes on the Upper West Terrace of the Capitol as the chaos unfolded, before entering the Capitol through an emergency exit door.
In the court decision, the reason given for the home detention is that Cantrell had shown no remorse and, as an attorney, “absolutely should have known his actions were illegal.”
Cantrell drove to Washington Jan. 5 with cousins Jared and Eric Cantrell. The next day, they attended the “Stop the Steal” rally before marching down Constitution Avenue to the Capitol, where several photos showed them on the Capitol grounds.
Jared Cantrell was also sentenced last week for entering and remaining in a restricted building and demonstrating in the Capitol. He was captured on video in the Capitol Rotunda before exiting the building a little before 3 p.m.
He was sentenced to three years supervised probation – one year for each of his three guilty counts – and community service.
Eric Cantrell of Greenwood pled guilty to his charges in February and was sentenced to three months’ probation and fined $1,000.
