Bloomington man arrested after chasing women with knife near IU campus

A Bloomington man is under arrest after chasing two women with a knife near the Indiana University campus.

In a statement Wednesday, police identified the man as 22-year-old Karsten Harshbarger from Indianapolis.

Multiple 911 callers reported the incident near IU’s Sample Gates and Kirkwood Avenue just before noon.

Officers found the suspect at the Indiana Memorial Union and took him into custody. During a search, police said they found a knife and drugs on the suspect.

The two 20-year-old women told investigators they noticed an unknown man following them near 4 th and Grant streets. He exposed the knife and pointed it toward the victims when they turned to see why he was following them.

Harshbarger will be charged Thursday at the Monroe County Jail with two counts of intimidation and a misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. An intial hearing is set for Friday, unless Harshbarger posts bail.
