An Indiana University student hit while traveling on an e-scooter this morning was hospitalized with “serious injuries” according to IUPD.

At 11:17 a.m., IUPD was called to an accident at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and 10th Street. Police say the rider was traveling west on 10th Street when they were struck by a car in the intersection.

According to bystanders, the rider was breathing but was nonverbal, only moving his hands to communicate.

A video obtained by The Bloomingtonian appeared to show the scooter rider turning left across two lanes of traffic before colliding with the vehicle.

The student's name and condition have not been released. There is no word yet on whether anyone will face charges in connection with the incident.

This is the first major accident involving an e-scooter this year. Last fall, there were two fatal accidents involving scooters. An IU freshman was killed after an early morning scooter accident and IU student Nathaniel Stratton was killed on an e-scooter after being hit by a drunk driver.

This story has been updated with information from the dashcam video.
