Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Christine Talley Haseman is running for reelection this year.

Like her fellow judges seeking reelection, Catherine Stafford and Darcie Fawcett, Haseman took office in 2019 and will complete her first term at the end of 2024.

A Democrat, she is currently running uncontested.

Haseman’s docket includes criminal cases such as misdemeanors and felonies, including murders.

Haseman said she is running for reelection for the opportunity to ensure the court is open, fair and responsive to all individuals with the criminal justice system.

She said mental health and substance use disorder are some of the most significant issues facing the criminal justice system.

“As a judge, I have had the opportunity to work with other members of the community to improve access to mental health care for those who need it, but we still have a long way to go,” Haseman wrote in an email. “Appropriate treatment for those in need not only improves the lives of individuals with serious mental health and/or substance use issues, it also reduces crime and increases safety in our community.”

Haseman said she has practiced law for more than 20 years and served as a judge or judicial officer in various capacity for more than eight years combined.

She is currently judge of Monroe Circuit Court 3 and previously served as judge of Monroe Circuit Court 8, where she presided over family law, small claims and protective order cases.

Haseman previously served as juvenile referee in Lawrence Circuit Court and presided over child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, paternity and child support cases.

Haseman serves on the Indiana Supreme Court child improvement welfare and rules & access management committees. She is one of nine judges on the Monroe County Board of Judges and is also a member of the Indiana Judge’s Association and the Monroe County Bar Association.

She is an adjunct professor in the Indiana University O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and serves on the board of directors for Stone Belt, Inc., the local chapter of The Arc — a nonprofit serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

She is also a former board member for the local chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
