The city of Bloomington is replacing the two free electric vehicle charging stations at Switchyard Park to metered stations.

Work began Wednesday on moving the two free charging stations in the Rogers Street parking lot to the maintenance building at Switchyard Park to service the city’s growing fleet of electric vehicles.

The city will charge 35 cents per kilowatt-hour at the new stations.

The cost to move the free stations and install metered stations is $3,100 from the economic and development department budget.

The change brings the Switchyard Park stations in line with the city’s other metered charging stations in the Morton Street, Walnut Street, Trades District and Fourth Street parking garages.

To access the EV charging stations on IU’s campus, users must purchase a special permit that costs $36 annually.
