East side KFC, Taco Bell to close May 19

The east side KFC, located at 2901 East Third St., posted that it will close May 19.
The east side KFC, located at 2901 East Third St., posted that it will close May 19.

A Bloomington-area Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell both announced they will close at the end of the week. The east side KFC and Taco Bell are located at 2901 E. Third St. and 3001 E. Third St., respectively. A KFC employee clarified the restaurants are separately owned, but both will close Sunday.

If you’re still craving chicken combos and Crunch Wrap Supremes, one other KFC and four Taco Bell locations remain in Bloomington.

The restaurants filed for demolition with the city last August to become a Crew Carwash.

This Crew location would be the second Bloomington site. A Crew-affiliated LLC, Dahm No. 64, bought the properties on May 5, 2022, according to the Monroe County GIS

The documents filed with the city detail a 7,055 square-foot carwash, taking up the 2901 E. Third St. and 3001 E. Third St. properties. The building would face Third Street, and traffic would flow in and out of the Williamsburg Center off of Pete Ellis Drive.

This is not an uncommon purchase for Crew. In 2021, Crew replaced a Steak n’ Shake in Nora, Indiana.

According to Bloomington’s zoning districts’ interactive map, the lot is a mixed-use corridor, meaning that everything from storefront retail to personal offices can be built there. That includes both restaurants and carwashes.

Crew Carwash has 48 locations in Indiana, with four more coming soon. The first Bloomington location opened in 2017 at 3430 W. Third St.
