Bloomington’s Annual Strawberry Shortcake Festival took place all day Thursday at Switchyard Park, with the desserts on sale until 8 p.m. unless they sell out sooner.

Organizers of the festival said mid-day that they’d already sold thousands of the cakes, which are topped with ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream.
The annual event raises money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington, supporting programs that serve hundreds of local children each year.
"And they can use our funds however they want," said Eve Robertson, president of the nonprofit behind the event. She's also on the eight-person "shortcake committee."
This year they're on track to sell 11,000 cakes, raising about $70,000.
"And we're doing that in one day," Robertson said. "We have a well-oiled machine. ... We know what we're doing pretty well after doing it for so many years."
This year’s festivities included a 5K-race, two concerts in the park, and a visit from the Monroe County Community School Corporation's “STEM to Them” mobile robotics lab.
The event also received support from the Bloomington parks department.
