Construction of office space in Trades District garage to start in September

The Energy Sciences Network, a high-speed computer network serving the U.S. Department of Energy, is getting an office in Bloomington’s Trades District.
The Energy Sciences Network, a high-speed computer network serving the U.S. Department of Energy, is getting an office in Bloomington’s Trades District.

The building of 4,059 square feet of office space in Bloomington’s Trades District Parking Garage will start in late September. 

That’s according to an agreement between the city and Compass Commercial Construction Group, the Indianapolis-based construction firm hired for the work.

The Bloomington Redevelopment Commission approved a $700,000 contract with Compass at a meeting last week. 

Documents show the space will include eight to 12 closed office spaces, seating for 12 guests, a four-person conference room and a larger space for meetings up to 20 people. 

It will be used by the Energy Sciences Network, a high-speed computer network serving the U.S. Department of Energy.

The tenant is listed as the Regents of the University of California. The network is managed by staff at the Lawrence-Berkeley National Laboratory. 

The city says Compass had the lowest and most responsible construction bid of three companies that responded. Compass expects to finish construction by the end of 2024.
