City of Bloomington seeking public feedback on new trail near Switchyard Park

Bloomington Parks and Recreation wants public feedback on the design of a new trail that will begin at Rogers Street across from Switchyard Park.

A meeting will be held September 4 th at Switchyard Park to collect feedback on the project design and take name suggestions for the trail.

The new trail is currently referred to as the Powerline Trail. It’s planned to span nearly a mile and run west beneath the power lines.

The trail was proposed in 2018. It was delayed while Duke Energy did infrastructure work in the area.

The funding for the trail comes from Parks Bicentennial Bonds approved by the Bloomington Common Council in 2018. In May, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners approved the City of Bloomington’s request for an easement to build a trail on the county’s Thomson property.

The trail will connect the Osage Place neighborhood and RCA Community Park. Future plans call for the trail to connect to the Summit District development to the west.

Bloomington Parks & Recreation hopes to begin trail construction as early as 2025.

The city will collect feedback and suggestions for the trail’s name from September 4 through September 27.
