Monroe County schools to make up snow day on Presidents Day

The Monroe County Community School Corporation board met Jan. 28.
The Monroe County Community School Corporation board met Jan. 28.

The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) will make up its Jan. 6 snow day on Feb. 17. The schools originally had that day off for President’s Day.

The calendar amendment was unanimously approved by the school board in a meeting Tuesday.

Jan. 6 was supposed to be the schools’ first day of the spring semester following a two-week winter break, but county travel restrictions prompted cancelled classes.

The state of Indiana requires that schools teach for 180 days each school year, including up to three e-learning days.

The board also prepared for the possibility of another snow day this semester by permitting the addition of an extra day, if necessary, to the academic calendar. That would make the last day of school May 23.

The board voted to add the same snow make-up days as options for the next two schoolyears.
