Former Indiana University basketball player Butch Carter became the fifth named plaintiff in a lawsuit against the university alleging former team doctor Brad Bomba Sr. routinely committed sexual assault under the guise of medical care.
Carter played for the Hoosiers from the 1976-77 to 1979-80 seasons.
Current trainer Tim Garl, who has been in his position for decades, is also named as a defendant for allegedly not stopping Bomba Sr.
The university has argued that the lawsuit should be dismissed because of "untimeliness and damages restrictions." Garl has argued that, at the time of the alleged abuse, rectal examinations for college age males was not considered inappropriate.
