Interstate 465 around Indianapolis will be increasing its speed limit starting July 1. The limit will increase from 55 to 65 miles per hour.
The change was made in a road funding bill that passed in this year’s legislative session. House Enrolled Act 1461 was signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun May 1.
The speed limits will not affect work zones.
HEA 1461 also expands options for townships to fund transportation improvements and matches $50,000 for road improvements in Marion County, among other changes.
The Indiana Dept. of Transportation, which owns the highway, provided the following on the change:
“INDOT is currently working to develop plans to safely execute an increased speed limit on I-465. “We will work collaboratively with the Federal Highway Administration throughout the process.”
