The Monroe Fire Protection District hopes to better serve the Washington Township area of Monroe County when it opens a new station at 478 E. Chambers Pike.
Station 26 officially goes into service at 7 a.m. Friday.
“This station represents a major investment in public safety for Washington Township residents and northern Monroe County,” according to a statement.
The area was previously dispatched from the North Old State Road 37 station. The new station will shorten response times.
“With shorter response times and increased resources, we can better protect lives and property while strengthening our ability to serve the residents of Monroe County,” said Jeffrey Combs, assistant chief of the Monroe Fire Protection District.
Station 26 will be staffed at all times by two firefighters. The station will house a rescue engine, wildfire equipment and a water tanker vehicle.
The news release said the most common accidents in Washington Township are emergency medical related, and that this new station is specially equipped to handle these emergencies.
The public is invited to tour the station at an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24.
