Filipino Culture Night

Filipino Culture Night

Debut: Buhay at Unang Pag-Ibig (Life and First Love) is this year’s Filipino Culture Night presented by the Filipino American Association at IU, celebrating 18 years of Filipino community at IU Bloomington. To honor this milestone, the production brings a traditional Filipino debut to life on stage, featuring the 18 Roses, 18 Candles, and 18 Treasures.

Follow Maia as she reconnects with her Filipino roots through dance and finds herself caught between friendship and first love. With high energy cultural performances, emotional storytelling, and a blend of contemporary and traditional music, the show captures the excitement, drama, and heart of growing up.

Whether you are familiar with Filipino culture or experiencing it for the first time, this one-night celebration offers a vibrant and heartfelt performance centered on love, tradition, and community. First come, first served light appetizers and refreshments will be provided (while supplies last), proudly catered by Bloomington’s local Filipino restaurant, Pinoy Garden Cafe. The dress code for this event is semi-formal to align with the Debut theme. Dressing up is highly encouraged but not required.
