Hail A Cab And Lunch: Uber Launches Food Delivery Pilot

The "lunch rush" just took on a new connotation.

Taxi service Uber has announced it will pilot a new food delivery service titled UberFRESH in Santa Monica between August 26 and September 5.

For the trial period, Uber is partnering with local eateries in Santa Monica to provide limited lunch options and a cookie -- all in 10 minutes. Participating restaurants include Tender Greens, 41 Ocean and Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery.

Customers can request UberFRESH between 11:30am and 2:30pm using their smartphones. Then, a driver will deliver the meal.

If the pilot is successful, Uber hopes to expand its delivery service to other areas.
