MLK Day Service Projects, Burns Supper, Beef Checkoff

We rely on MLK Day as our day to really get set for the garden season. This would take weeks if we did it with just a couple garden volunteers.

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard and several other food organizations were packed with volunteers on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Throughout the show, we'll visit a few service projects and hear how the food community spent the day on, not the day off.

Harvest Public Media introduces us to the two ranchers who become activists as they worked to change the federal "beef checkoff" program.

Some recipes for Burns Supper with Chef Daniel Orr -- one you could make tonight for dinner no problem, and another one that might turn some stomachs.

And, are neonic pesticides not as effective in protecting crops as we thought? The EPA is looking into it.
