The trustees of Earlham College have selected Anne M. Houtman as the next president of the liberal arts school and its School of Religion.

The school announced Wednesday that Houtman will take office on July 1. She's currently provost and vice president for academic affairs at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford in zoology and a master's degree in anthropology from UCLA. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Pomona College.

Trustees chairman David Stump says Houtman was the consensus choice of the trustees who met on Saturday to receive the comments and recommendations of a search committee.

Houtman is the permanent replacement for Alan Price, who  resigned July 31 after just 13 months in the post.
