More than 1,800 residents participated in a survey the city of Bloomington put out to get feedback on proposed scooter regulations.

The city wanted to know what types of rules residents want to see before presenting a draft ordinance to the city council.

Director of Public Engagement Mary Catherine Carmichael says the biggest issue that came up was parking.

The city offered a separate survey to students, and many indicated they want designated parking areas for scooters to take the guess work out of where they can safely leave them.

"The goal is to make it a safer environment, one that works better, you know," Carmichael says. "We want the shared spaces that are our streets and sidewalks to feel comfortable and safe to everyone who is navigating them."

The city council is expected to consider the ordinance for the first time at its March 20 meeting.
