Prosecutors are seeking life in prison with no parole for a man they say killed a 2–month-old infant Tuesday.

A Bloomington judge set 19-year-old Dakota King’s trial date for Jan. 13, 2020.

King made a brief appearance in court Friday afternoon, surrounded by several sheriff's deputies.

He’s facing four felony counts including the murder of his girlfriend’s 2-month-old son.

Neighbor Max Phillips says King’s girlfriend asked him on Tuesday to take the couple and the baby to the hospital after noticing something was wrong.

“When someone dies from asphyxiation, their lips and finger nails turn blue, this baby was gray," says Phillips.

King told investigators he got mad at the baby after it spit up on him, and forced the baby’s head into its bedding.

Police found blood in the home where King, his girlfriend and the baby lived.

Phillips says he was still at the hospital when King heard from doctors that the baby had died.

"He was frantic, just shaking, head in hand, saying, 'I'm a horrible person, I deserve to be dead,'" he says.

King is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bail.
