Lake Lemon Beach Closed Due To Elevated E. Coli Levels

The Lake Lemon Conservancy District notified private property owners in the area yesterday that Riddle Point Park Beach will be closed this weekend due to elevated levels of E. coli in the water.

District Manager Adam Casey says the elevated level of the bacterium is likely due to recent heavy rains.

“It’s probably because the watershed got flushed out with the storm,” he says.

Casey says the levels should be lower in a day or two, and the conservancy district expects to reopen the beach early next week.

Boating and fishing is still allowed, but Casey says he advises people to be careful about swallowing water.

The Mayo Clinic says exposure to E. coli via contaminated water can cause abdominal cramping, diarrhea and nausea and vomiting.
