Downtown Bloomington Recycling Center To Close This Summer

The Downtown Bloomington Recycling Center could be closing down this year because of financial difficulties.

The recycling center on tenth and Rogers opened in 2011.

The center's manager, Chad Roeder, says the center only makes about $11,000 a year and that isn't enough to buy new equipment or regularly pay workers.

"There are still some problems and financial issues that we are trying to deal with, in order to improve our bottom line," Roeder said.

Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan's spokesperson Adam Wason says there have been clear problems with the way Roeder has been running his business.

"We did see that there could possibly be some long term sustainability issues, based on his business model," Wason said.

Roeder plans to close the recycling center at the end of July.
