Indiana's Unemployment Rate Holds At 5.7 Percent

Indiana's unemployment rate remained unchanged in November, even as the state added more jobs than any single month in 15 years.

The private sector added nearly 16,000 jobs in November, led by huge gains in the professional and business services sector.

But the state's unemployment rate held steady for the third consecutive month at 5.7 percent because the additional jobs were largely offset by additions to the workforce. More than 12,000 people last month joined the job hunt.

The Department of Workforce Development's new commissioner Steven Braun says job creation last month was "remarkable."

He says growth in the labor force is equally impressive. Indiana has added more than 75,000 Hoosiers to the workforce in the past year.
