Obama Touts Revival Of Manufacturing At Indiana Plant

During a visit to Indiana today, President Barack Obama touted the growth in the manufacturing industry since the recession began in 2008.

"We've seen manufacturing driving our economic growth in a way we haven't seen in 20 years," Obama said during a speech at the Millennium Steel plant in Princeton, Ind.

The president's speech comes after good jobs numbers were released this morning.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that 329,000 fewer people filed for unemployment benefits in September and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent.

Governor Mike Pence also had a brief discussion with President Obama after greeting him at the Evansville airport.

Hepoke with him for about five minutes at the base of the stairs of Air Force One about Indiana's proposed healthcare expansion plan known as HIP 2.0.

Negotiations between the state and federal government over the program have been going on for months, with the governor expressing "increasing frustration" over a lack of progress.

Pence says his conversation with the president followed a conversation Thursday evening with Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett.

"The president and I talked through a number of substantive issues that have arisen in our discussions over the Healthy Indiana Plan and I appreciated the opportunity to call the matter to his personal attention," Pence said.

Pence will travel to Washington Monday to meet with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
