Chief Justice Calls For More Money For Court Technology

Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush Wednesday called on lawmakers to invest more money in court technology.

Rush says Indiana will begin this year a move to statewide electronic filing in its courts. She says e-filing will transform the way Hoosiers interact with the judicial system and save countless hours and costs by moving away from paper.

But she says that move to e-filing will cost money — and notes the judiciary operates on less than 1 percent of the total state budget.

"Pennies of additional investment now will reap dollars of savings in future records management costs. And if our Indiana judicial system is to be on the right course, we must act now."

2015's State of the Judiciary address was the first in state history delivered by a woman, as Rush is Indiana's first female chief justice.
