Morning Headline Roundup: Friday, July 31, 2015

Good morning! Here are a few of the stories on our radar today.

1 . A former assistant jail commander has filed a lawsuit against the Vigo County Sheriff's Office over his firing.

Kim Hawkins admitted to mistakenly releasing an inmate while he was covering for the release officers.

That inmate returned to jail three hours later. But Hawkins believes he was fired because he spoke out about excessive force used on the part of a few jail officers.

He is seeking $150,000 dollars in damages.

2. A global digital marketing company has selected Indianapolis for its North American headquarters.

Austria-based Emarsys is planning to create more than 167 jobs in the city and is already hiring sales, customer support and professional services positions.

3. The state has filed a civil lawsuit against the former Speedway fire chief.

Mark Watson is accused of embezzling more than $58,000 dollars in public funds.

In July, the Indiana State Board of Accounts released an audit finding Watson had allegedly misused tens of thousands of public dollars for personal gain.
