IUPUI Expanding All-Gender Bathrooms

IUPUI is expanding the number of all-gender bathrooms and creating a new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Center on campus.

The university sent a newsletter to faculty announcing the addition of 15 all-gender bathrooms, saying they're available to all people regardless of expression or identity.

"This provides all students another option that may enhance their feelings of comfort and safety," the university said in a press release. "Such facilities are especially important for the trans and gender nonconforming people who may feel vulnerable and stigmatized in certain restroom environments."

The university says not all restrooms on campus will be converted to all-gender facilities.

The new LGBTQ Center will include a library and allow for special programming. It will be located inside IUPUI's Multicultural Center.
