Headlines: December 24, 2015

Good morning! These are some of the headlines we're following from around the state.

1. After record highs, farmland values expected to slide.

An agricultural economist at Purdue University predicts high interest rates and crop prices to drive down the value of farmland in 2016. Farmland values tripled between 2003 and 2014.

2. 2016 bill would allow teachers to negotiate individual contracts.

State Sen. Pete Miller (R-Avon) said his bill would address Indiana's teacher shortage. The Indiana State Teachers Association called the proposed legislation an attack on collective bargaining rights.

3. LaPorte business sells frankincense, myrrh.

Northwest Indiana Trading Co. imports frankincense from Oman and myrrh from Somaliland for processing and international resale. The incenses are often used in Orthodox and Catholic masses.
