Indiana DNR Digs Into History Of Underground Railroad

The Department of Natural Resources is digging into Indiana's history to find out more about the state's role in the Underground Railroad.

The DNR hosted a chat on their Facebook page Wednesday afternoon with Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology Historian Jeannie Regan-Dinius.

"Our goal is to get rid of the myths, educate Hoosiers about this history and uncover lost stories," Regan-Dinius said during her Facebook chat.

The chat is part of the Underground Railroad Initiative, an effort to to foster research, identification and protection efforts for Indiana's Underground Railroad resources.

Regan-Dinius is also traveling the state to host free events as part of this initiative.

The DNR created an interactive map showing important sites related to the Underground Railroad.
