Police Find Skimming Device During I-69 Traffic Stop

A traffic stop turned into something much more in Greene County.

Police pulled the car over on I-69 Tuesday afternoon after it was spotted going well over 100 miles per hour.

The officers got a search warrant and went through the car. They uncovered a secret compartment with a gun inside, along with a skimming device used to steal credit card information.

As we've reported, police recently discovered credit card skimmers in pumps at two gas stations in Bloomington.

An employee at a Circle K gas station called a service technician after noticing a bulb in a pump was dim. A skimming device was found in that pump and at another Bloomington Circle K.

Skimmers are small devices attached to credit card machines on gas pumps. They are able to scan and store credit card information from the magnetic strip while drivers fill up their tanks. Criminals are then able to sell the information and use it to make counterfeit cards.

Police have not confirmed whether those cases are connected to the traffic stop. The man, a 20 year old from New Mexico, is facing several felony charges.
