Vigil At IU Honors Victims Of Recent Terrorist Attacks

A large crowd gathered in front of Indiana University's Sample Gates Tuesday night to pay tribute to the victims of recent terrorist attacks across Europe and the Middle East.

Students and community members lit candles as they spoke out against the terrorists responsible.

Laszlo Sipos is from France and studying at IU for the semester. He says he's still shaken up by the attacks back home.

"I'm still kind of sad," Sipos says. "I'm still touched by those events. I think it will take a couple of days, a couple of weeks to get into normal life again."

The overwhelming sentiment of the night wasn't hate – but the power of love.

Indiana University student Agatha Stopnicki grew up in Paris and much of her family still lives there. She says unity is the best way to fight the radicals.

"Talk about it and then move past it and go back to your lives," Stopnicki says. "Because the only way we will prevail is by doing all the things that they're trying to prevent us from doing."

The vigil ended with the singing of France's national anthem, "La Marseillaise."
