Assembly Hall Renovation Past Half Way Mark, On Time To Open

Assembly Hall renovations at Indiana University are just past the half way mark.

Associate Athletic Director Eric Neuburger says the massive project is running on time for the October 14 dedication, but he wouldn't let us inside to see the progress.

"There are some surprises that we have planned, some of them are now underway and what we're really hoping is that we're going to have the opportunity to show people all at the same time and have them be able to be wowed by all the wonderful things going on," Neuburger says.

He did tell us construction workers are busy finishing up the new Terrazzo floor on the ground level, replacing every seat with new red pads and backs and in the next couple of weeks the new scoreboard will go up.

The centerpiece of the renovations is the construction of the Henke Spirit of '76 Club above the south end basket. The Varsity Club is selling tickets for the new VIP seats, but it will cost you. New club level seats are available for a $25,000 gift plus the cost of game tickets.

A $40 million gift from alumna Cindy Simon Skjodt of Simon Malls is funding the project. The arena will be renamed after the family – Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall this fall.
