Former Bloomington City Employee Sentenced In Fraud Case

A federal judge Tuesday sentenced former Bloomington Parks Department office manager Judith A. Seigle to 24 months in federal prison.

Seigle was responsible for maintaining the books for the Parks Department and the Bloomington Community Parks and Recreation Foundation. During her time as office manager, Seigle diverted, embezzled and misappropriated over $430,000 from the Foundation and Parks Department.

"The citizens of Bloomington deserve better from their paid city employees," said U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler in a statement. "Public officials need to serve the public, not themselves."

Seigle used department credit cards for personal purchases and transferred funds from department accounts into her own bank and credit card accounts, covering up the evidence by creating false bank statements.

The fraud continued for over 13 years until Seigle was caught in October, 2014.

After serving two years in prison, Seigle must serve three years of supervised release and make restitution of the over $430,000 she stole.
